Your Song Is Making Money in Places You Have Never Checked

Your song is blasting from every danfo in Lagos. The DJ runs it back twice at your Friday spot, and someone in Nairobi has turned it into a TikTok trend. Then you open your distributor dashboard, see a small number, and wonder where all the money went.

The truth is that streaming is only one of four ways music pays. Your recording earns from streams. Your song itself (the melody and lyrics) earns separately through collecting societies like GHAMRO in Ghana or SAMRO in South Africa whenever it plays on radio or in public. Live shows and brand deals pay on top of that. Most artists only ever collect from one of the four, simply because nobody told them the others existed.

This week, list every way your latest song could be earning, then circle the ones you are not collecting yet. That is money waiting for you. Music Industry 101 shows you exactly how each income stream works and who pays it. Take the course on Crux Global Academy: cruxmusic.global/academycrux.
